A. M. D. G. History Of The Old Testament [by Peter Paul Prando] Publisher not stated but known to be printed at the St. Charles Mission, Pryor Creek Montana, USA, circa 1892-1898. BOOKLET, paper covers, 8.5” x 5.5”, 20 pages, folded sheets unbound (laid inside each other in proper order, as issued). Gelatin-Print Hectograph in Purple and Red Ink. The gelatin process produced print runs of somewhere between 20 and 80 copies, making this a very scarce item. Text in Absaroki – Native American Language of the Crow Indians; with headings in English; and the title heading A. M. D. G., a Jesuit motto, in Latin, Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam (For the Greater Glory of God.) In the 1890’s no one had translated the Bible into the Crow language. This booklet provides the first translated synopsis of stories from the Book of Genesis written in the Crow language, by Father Peter Paul Prando. Jesuit Priest Peter Paul Prando (1845-1906) was a Noted Missionary who helped convert many Native American Tribal People to Christianity and who established many Indian Churches and Schools in the Pacific Northwest. Arriving at St. Peter’s Mission in Montana in 1880, Father Prando built a Mission in 1881 for the Blackfeet Tribe in Birch Creek. Fr.
