Hello, This auction is for an item that I can truly designate as unique. This beautiful hand carved/made wooden mallet once belonged to the Quaker City Association of Railroad Men. The metal "sign" or plaque is dated 1892. I have not cleaned the plaque, but it may very well be sterling silver - it has that look. Visible wear and patina. This item is NOT a Repro. Very old... Condition of the metal work - one screw is missing. Otherwise excellent. Condition of the Handle - heavy wear at the end, minor vertical crack - not major yet notable. The handle and the head are very much attached and intact. Condition of the Head - Visible wear and patina. Two areas with loss. The loss, in my opinion does not devalue the piece. In my opinion the wear only adds to the value. This mallet may have been the final say in many important decisions regarding the Railroad Association. Who Knows???? Measurements: Head : 5 x 4 inches... The plaque : 1 x 3 inches... The Handle : 8 1/2 inches, but keep in mind that the handle travels through to the top of the head - the entire handle measures approx. 13 inches... Very interesting item. How many could possibly exist??? This piece is fresh from a PA estate. Enjoy!
