1900 Virginia Janus*Pansies*Original Yardlong* Chromolitho Print*FramedThis auction is for the stunningly beautiful yardlong of pansies from 1892 by the wonderful Victorian artist Virginia Janus. It is housed in a simple gold frame and matted with pretty plum and slate colored mats that enhance and highlight all the beautiful colors in this 123 year old print. The pansies are made in shades of purple, plum, lavender, rose, white and soft and golden yellows. This is a really pretty print. While I have looked for information on Ms. Janus, there is not much information available on Victorian women artists. Even though there isn't much info, their artwork is a testament to their legacies! This chromolithograph yardlong panel was printed in 1892 for Demorest's Family Magazine. This is from the era of yardlongs and half yardlongs, Paul DeLongpre and Catherine Klein (both contemporaries of Ms. Janus), when beautiful printed panels were given away by many companies, newspapers and magazines as an enticement for and appreciation of customers. This was printed by G. H Buek & Co in New York using the chromolithography method of printing that was common during the turn of the century and produced intense and vivid colors.Image Area:5½ x 35½ inchesImage Condition: Very Good.
