This is an original 1894 halftone print portrait of George "Kid" Lavigne, (1871?-1928), a lightweight boxer from Bay City, Michigan. On the reverse is an account of his boxing career. (Please see both images.) Period Paper is pleased to offer a rare collection of original halftone print portraits of the great boxers and prizefighters of the 19th century. Short biographical sketches and/or accounts of famous matches are on the reverse of each portrait. The work of Billy Edwards, ex-Lightweight Champion of the World, this historical collection covers boxers from James John Corbett, the "Father of Modern Boxing," to Tom Hyer, the first American Champion, as well as boxers and other pugilists from around the world. Please note the large format of these prints. It is uncommon to find boxing images of this size which makes this collection extremely valuable to collectors.
