1896 5C MS66 PCGS. Despite a respectably high mintage in excess of 8.8 million pieces, not many high grade survivors are known today from this Liberty nickel issue. This Premium Gem is well struck, with pleasing satiny luster and undisturbed surfaces that seem pristine. It is nearly untoned, and appears so at arm's length, but closer inspection reveals a bit of streaky, speckled patina on each side. With such splendid overall quality, it would be difficult to find a better example of the 1896 Liberty nickel, as the certified population shows. Population: 8 in 66, 0 finer (11/09).From The Pacific Collection of Liberty Nickels. Grade: 66, Service: PCGS, Service No.: 3857, Issue Date: 1896, Denomination: 5C
