The volumes are 8vo (8 X 5 inches); hardcover; ; ex-library; volume one has red cloth library binding with gilt titles & shelf numbers on spine; volume two is 1/2 red morocco on marble boards with gilt titles on spine and faded shelf numbers; spine leather of volume 2 is darkened, dry, & cracked; bindings soiled, rubbed & worn on edges; both volumes have several library ink stamps on title pages, remnants of library card holders & due date paste-downs inside front boards & on front endpapers; small tears on front end-paper of vol.2 where paste-down was removed; braile-like library blind stamps on some text pages; minor pencil notations scattered throughout; vol.1 has ink underlings on four lines of page 69; minor age toning; text blocks tight; 365 + 339 pages + folding plate in vol.1.
