Original Antique Fish PrintReport of the State Commissioners of Fisheries~ 1897 - 1901 ~ Original antique fish print from the The Report of the State Commissioners of Fisheries for the Year 1896 (-1900) , also known as the Pennsylvania Fish . Amazingly many of the best natural history prints from around the turn of the previous century are from government publications. No mention of the artist is made in the publication, but they are clearly after Sherman Foote Denton meaning that if he didn't actually have a hand in their production, they were made from his prints that illustrated the Annual Report of the Forest, Fish and Game Commission of the State of New York from 1859-1909. The Pennsylvania Fish differ from the New York Fish prints in that they are smaller, printed on medium weight instead of heavy weight paper and are more moderately priced, especially for the most popular fish. Both are becoming scarce and difficult to find. Thewater color paintings of fish for which Denton has becomeknown internationally were originally only a by product of his other work. Denton's initial fame came from a taxidermy method he developed and patented that preserved fish in an exceptionally life like manner.
