1897 U.S. Liberty $5 Half Eagle Gold Coin Details: Beautiful Liberty five dollar (half eagle) gold coin. Almost 1/4 ounce of gold gold gold! Good : Coin is in truly excellent condition. I’m not an expert or a grader (you must judge for yourself) but I would deem it to be XF. There is no evidence of any actual wear. Bad : Although clear and pretty, it doesn't quite have the shiny new-ness of AU or BU coins . Oh, there is no scratch on obverse, it's clear. (Mark is only in picture - maybe the reflection off the plastic or something.) The Story : I am a regular guy / private collector. I love coins, but have not done much with them for years….so I decided it’s time to get them to some who will appreciate them more! (I’m also starting to raise/save some money to prepare for retirement). Summary : My coins have been safe and secure in a lock box for as long as 45 years – not bought and sold or traded regularly like many others. If you want to get a good deal from an honest private collector, bid confidently. Post something if you have a general question, eMail me if you need to ask something specific or personal. Thanks for looking and best of luck bidding!
