1897 VANDERMAN RAILROAD GOLD BULLION STRONGBOX TRUNK W/ LOCK AND TRAY. RESTORED. Beautiful professionally restored example. Has White Pass and Yukon (W.P. & Y) railway stenciled insignia and 147 parcel number. The Klondike gold rush happened just as the 1897 patent for this Vanderman trunk was issued. The riveted brass Vanderman trunk label on the front has expected fade but is fully legible and original. The box is in superb vintage condition. No rust to the heavy green industrial oil painted riveted metal. Oak wood is also in excellent shape with no major apologies. This one has the matching labeled interior wood tray that sits on metal runners inside the box--an important thing to have. Heavy iron side handles operate correctly. Hinges and hasp are in superb condition and function properly. Cast iron corners have security carriage bolts that secure the lid. Includes a working, period-correct lock and key that is properly chained to the lid so it does not get lost. Interior is very clean with a matte black industrial oil paint finish. It is quite simply a stunning centerpiece for trunk/railway collectors or for use in the home. I have seen people add casters to the bottoms or these for mobility (an easy do), but I wanted to keep it as original as possible. This is a very heavy (approximately 80 lb.) strongbox so I have listed it as read more
