RARE 1898 US 1ST EDITION CYRANO DE BERGERAC FILM BASIS JOSE FERRER STEVE MARTIN Description: Cyrano de Bergerac is a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand. The 1987 film Roxanne, a contemporary comedy version with a happy ending added, starred Steve Martin as C.D. Bales, Daryl Hannah as Roxanne, and Rick Rossovich as Chris. The two most famous English translations are those by Brian Hooker and Anthony Burgess. ON AUCTION HERE is the 1898 first US English language edition, Cyrano de Bergerac, a Heroic Comedy, from the French of Edmond Rostand, done into English verse by Howard Thayer Kingsbury. Accepted and Played by Richard Mansfield. Published by Lamson, Wolffe and Co., Boston, New York and London, 1898, with that date on the title page. Bound in blue cloth decorated in silver. 241 pages, with a bookstore label from Brentano's, New York, and an owner name, C.H. Burr, Nov. 1898. Great condition. Hercule Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac, a cadet (nobleman serving as a soldier) in the French Army, is a brash, strong-willed man of many talents.
