1898 EPISCOPAL BISHOP ETHELBERT TALBOT diary top church official Pennsylvania Wyoming West ETHELBERT TALBOT, 1848-1928, fifteenth presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States, diary for the year 1898 with every day (except Dec. 30 and 31) fully filled in in ink, leather cover wrapping, 3" across x 6-1/2" high, 2 days per page, paste-on paper label on front with date 1898, Talbot remained Bishop of Wyoming upon being appointed Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania in South Bethlehem on February 2 (noted on this date in the diary), 1898 was an important year in Talbot's life, the dairy reflects Talbot's duties and activities in these different positions; he seems to have kept it as a record of his travels, activities, and meetings to account for his salary and expenses as suggested by entries with figures at the end of the diary, among these is a list headed "From the Board" naming different individuals with amounts given by them to support the local church and the Bishop - this is followed by a long list of "Sermons preached" on specific days noting Biblical passages these were based on, a list of furniture with prices (e. g., chair - 28.00, dining room - 39.00, mahogany table 7.00), a continuation of the list of sermons, a list of persons with addresses, transportation costs, list of appointments, read more
