18th CENTURY CANAL TOKEN SHORT NAVIGATION 1795 BISHOPS STORTFORD CONDOR G. GRADE Search I have a number of coins and tokens from my own collection listed including high grade condor 18th century tokens and 19th century commemorative coins. DESCRIPTION The obverse is showing a horse towing a barge on the landscape. On the reverse is Jackson Arms "I would rather suffer than be disgraced" . On the edge reads "Payable at Bishops Stortford" (the "Stortford" is a faint impression). Sir George Jackson was Judge Advocate of the fleet and MP and was sole proprietor of the short navigation which ran from Bishops Stortford to the River Lee and which opened in 1767.
