This is an exceptionally rare 18th century Pin cushion ball with family provenance dating from the 18th century through to the 19th century. It has a silver band securing the red silk upholstered pads engraved with four sets of initials and dates; E.T. 1785, A.B. 1806, H.A.B. 1838 and M.C.M. 1861.These clearly signify generations of ownership. The whole ball is suspended by a chain attached to a silver chatelaine clip with an engraved cartouche bearing the initials H.A.B. The ball measures roughly 2 inches wide and is in very good condition. A couple of small pins which secure the band to the ball are missing but these are easily replaced. The silk is in fabulous condition and appears to be 18th century but I am not sure whether it is the original or not. This is either American or English but I am not sure which.
