Sankaat is pleased to present for your consideration this early Spode Pearl ware "Net" pattern plate. Dimensions: 9-6/8 inches wide Description: The pattern that appears on this plate is referred to as the Spode "Net" Pattern. The pattern is thought to have been invented by Spode in circa 1790. This pattern also appears on Herculaneum pearl ware from about 1805-1815. It is generally believed that this pattern met with great success because of its blending style and ability to blend with both early Victorian and Georgian styles. The Rococo taste can be seen in all of the simple scrolls and foliate designs among paneled chinoiserie scenes. The thinly potted body is accented by the hand cut "Lowestoft edging". Additionally the glazing has that slightly bluish gray coloring typical of Spode wares from the pre 1810 period. Condition: Overall Good. With two shallow chips on the rim being its only excuse. Age: Ca. 1800
