We offer for sale this: 18 th Century Wrought Iron Hearth Toaster Willow Pattern N.H. Origin. The toaster is 18 inches long, carriage is 13 ½ inches long and 2 inches wide; the feet are 2 ½ inches high . An excellent example of an early Hearth Toaster which we recently purchased right off a 1780 Hearth in Gilmanton , New Hampshire . No doubt this was made at the nearby famous Gilmanton Iron Works. I was told by the former owner that this piece was used to cook in reenactments of early hearth cooking; this explains the residue in the pan area. This interesting piece has four willow tree holders which are often found on 18 th Century toasters. Note: this toaster is also called a “kick toaster” around this area in New Hampshire . Apparently this piece was well-used since it is in wobbly, yet stable condition (the carriage) from years of use. Oh yes, my wife says I should explain the blacksmith created hole in the handle. It is for a wire or string to “trig” the carriage when not is use or handing on a wall – See photo #6). We stand behind the authenticity of t his early piece. Buyer pays actual USPS Priority Mail.
