A scarce early Derby figure, one of a pair often referred to as the 'Italian Farmers' and based on originals created by the great J.J. Kandler at Meissen, the pair given the production number K56, circa 1760. Condition is good overall with light losses to bocage leaves & petals, the rim of her hat, her head has been off & re-stuck & the hens head is missing. There is no restoration. Lovely early restrained palette with fine decoration, she has very 'Chelsea' style facial features. Height: 7.75" [19.5cms]. See Peter Bradshaw's '18th Century English Porcelain Figures', page 209, colour plate Q [for the pair] & page 302 ref. K56.
