1900 $20 Gold Liberty Head, Double Eagles Graded MS63 by NGC The U.S. $20 gold pieces (or double eagles) of 1849-1907feature an attractive, classic depiction of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribedLIBERTY. The Liberty Head coin was minted in the wake of the California Gold Rush. The U.S. Treasury was receiving an unprecedented amount of gold and because of the high supply, was forced to expand their original mintage plan. As a result, multiple double eagle coins, including the Liberty Head coin, were produced. The obverse features a sharp profile of Lady Liberty and the year of mintage while the reverse shows a hand drawn depicted of the Great Seal of the United States by Anthony C. Paquet and the face value. Across the top are the words “United States of America.” The interesting reverse bears an eagle with a shield, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added to the reverse in 1866, shortly after the Civil War. The 1900 double eagles were struck over a century ago at the Philadelphia Mint. The Slabbed Coin pictured is the Coin you will receive if you win (and pay for) this Auction.
