A type-written memorandum from the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Post Office to C.J.A. Baby at the Hamilton Electric Light Company, dated August 9, 1900. The Postmaster reports that a package expected from D.A. Carter [a Canadian soldier in the Boer War] was mailed from Ladysmith on March 20, but the Natal Post Office in South Africa reports the package was lost in the foundering of the Royal Mail Steamship "Mexican" between Capetown and England. It was probably a souvenir being sent home, a box of Queen's Chocolate that had been distributed to the troops at Christmas. Size 6 1/2" x 8", folds, some slight damp staining.
