Vintage SAN FRANCISCO Postcard ~ LOTTA’S FOUNTAIN · Original Vintage Post Card ~ this is NOT a reproduction · Measures: 3-1/2” x 5-3/8” · NOT Used and NOT Postmarked · Circa: 1900’s ~ 1910’s Take a step back in history and view this vintage souvenir Postcard. This postcard was made in America and it was published by The Edward H. Mitchell Co. (San Francisco) ~ they were in business from 1898 until 1923. “2078 – LOTTA’S FOUNTAIN, JUNCTION OF KEARNY, GEARY AND MARKET STREETS, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA” is imprinted in red towards the bottom of the front of the postcard. The postcard features this fantastic fountain with people standing around it. Some of the store fronts in the background include United Cigars. Brief History about LOTTA’S FOUNTAIN (from Wikipedia): Lotta’s Fountain was dedicated in 1875. The cast pillar with a drinking fountain at its base was donated to San Francisco by the entertainer Lotta Crabtree. It served as a meeting point during the 1906 earthquake and fire aftermath. Commemorations of the earthquake, including a dwindling pool of survivors, are held every year at 5:12 a.m. on April 18 at the intersection. In 1999, the fountain, which had suffered neglect in the past decades, was totally refurnished to its 1875 appearance. Condition There are NO Creases and there is NO Writing.
