Very rare and wonderful, 1901 Boer War / South Africa Boxed Set of Stereoviews published by Underwood and Underwood in the original, book form Box!! This outstanding complete, Boxed Set includes 75 Curved Mount Views of South Africa, the vast majority of which feature British Troops in South Africa during the Boer War.While we have handled scores of individual Boew War Stereoviews over the past 37+ years, this is the first time we have come across a near complete Set housed in its original, Book Form Box. Included here are many Views we have never seen before and, as a whole this lot of 74 views is a fantastic look at South Africa at the time of the Second Boer War.The Book Form Box measures approx. 4 3/8" tall and 7 1/2" by 5 1/2" at the base. It is covered in a black, textured cloth identical to that used in bookbinding and on each of the two "spines" there are applied red leather labels that read "South Africa Through the Stereoscope. When the top half of the Box is removed the Stereoviews inside are revealed.The 75 Stereoviews contained in the Box each measure approx. 7" by 3 1/2" and are mounted on matching buff or black surface, curved card mounts (there are 27 mounted on buff colored mounts and 48 on black mounts). Each View is numbered and titled on the front of the mount and each is copyright 1901 by Underwood and Underwood. All of the Cards have extensive, printed text on the reverse describing the content of the View in six languages.As we stated above, the Set includes many images we have never encountered before including Military Hospital Views, Cavalry Companies, Ambulances, large groups of infantry soldiers, encampments, and many others. We have included a large number of scans below to give an indication of the wide range of Images included in this Set and we ask that potential bidders take the time to view the scans for a good indication of both content and condition of this wonderful group of Stereoviews.This very rare and wonderful, complete Boxed Set of 1901 South Africa / Boer War Stereoviews is in very good condition overall. The original, Book Form Box is complete and sound but split at one corner of the base and with wear, some damage and soiling to the exterior as can be seen in the scans below. The Set includes all 75 of the original Views. All of the Stereoviews are clean and crisp and very well preserved physically with no bends, tears, surface damage, or physical damage of any kind. All of the Views exhibit sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. Overall these 75 Stereoviews are exceptionally well preserved and all exhibit excellent 3 dimensional quality when viewed in a Stereoscope.A very rare and wonderful, 1901 Boer War / South Africa Boxed Set of Stereoviews published by Underwood and Underwood in the original, book form Box and a fantastic addition to any Collection!!!We were tempted to break this set up as we find that some of the more desirable 1901 Boer War Stereoviews sell for $35.00 or more, but we felt that it was best to keep the Set together as we felt confident that this wonderful collection of Views would attract the serious attention that it justly deserves!!Overseasshippping is extra and cost will be quoted at bidders request.
