Very interesting full color 1901 Pan-American Exposition illustrated advertising postal cover with US 2c vintage postage stamp tied Buffalo, New York, Sep 8 1898, Pan American Exposition/ 1901 advertising postmark, to Utica NY. The charter of this World's Fair was, "to promote the social and commercial interests of the states in the Western Hemisp Mexico and the other Latin American republics, as well as Canada, enthusiastically supported the event, which was located on approx. 350 acres of Delaware Park and an adjacent property. The exhibition boasted some 3,500 exhibitors and by its end in the late fall of 1901 had hosted more than eight million visitors. Because of its proximity to Niagara Falls, the hydro-powered electrical display at the Pan-American included over 200,000 incandescent lights, and was the finest the world had seen to that date. These, together with the spectacularly colored fountains, and the liberal use of color in decorating the buildings, earned it the appelation, "The Rainbow City." The predominant color was, "the beautiful emerald green hue of the water as it curves over the crest of Niagara Falls." And the most prominent landmark of the fair was the 350-foot high Electric Tower, adorned with some 40,000 lights.
