1904 "Elkhart Carriage & Harness Mfg. Co." catalog, from Elkhart, Indiana, whose offerings would soon go the way of...well...the horse and carriage. In 1906, the company's founders introduced their experimental model of an automobile, and in 1908, they began manufacturing the Pratt-Elkhart, described as "A standard automobile along modern lines." The catalog is missing its back cover, and has some chips to the front cover (with Arts & Crafts illustration), but the 238 inside pages are all in good to very good condition. Who knew there were so many varieties of carriages, buggies, traps, surreys, etc., not to mention horse harnesses? Every page is illustrated and gives full specs. A quick look shows that the most expensive one was $300 -- the Drop Sash Rockaway or Station Wagon -- with enclosed cab, leather, wool, silk curtains, Wilton carpet and Kelly tires. The next most expensive was $200 and they go down to as little as $40-$50.
