Wonderful booklet from the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition aka St. Louis World's Fair. It is of course a first edition and is inscribed " compliments of Peter de Abrew " Mr. Abrew was a member of the Ceylon Commission. He is listed as a Produce Merchant, Commercial Agent. 8-1/2 inches long x 5-1/2 inches width, 5/8 inches thick.T is a Classification of Exhibits and a List of Exhibitors and Their Exhibits . A wonderful source of information. Truly fascinating.This booklet is full of wonderful information regarding Ceylon (now called Sri Lanka). Indian and Ceylon were under English rule during thats time, so it is a fascinating book full of advertising with English and Ceylonese names. Discussed are the spice trade in cinnamon and cardamon, the all important tea industry, archeology, banking, foreign investment, education, transportation, forestry (t were lots of special displays of the Ceylon forestry products at the fair) pearl fishery and the all important mineral and gems trades. Tourism is discussed with the push on hunting or safari trips. T are many wonderful pictures of the indigenous peoples of the island, including the famous Veddas, and the "Devil Dancers".
