1907 Apperson Automobile Touring Club Photo Album Or Scrapbook. Photograph album with twenty-six photos of a tour taken by Apperson automobile owners to Pistakee Bay, Illinois in November of 1907. Apperson Brothers Automobile CompanyKokomo, Indiana In 1889 Elmer and Edgar Apperson opened their machine shop in Kokomo, Indiana. In 1993 Elwood Haynes, who owned a Sintz one-cylinder marine engine, asked the Apperson brothers if they could construct an automobile using his engine. July 4th, 1894 a test run of the new car was made. Haynes often claimed he made the first gas engine automobile (a claim that was not warranted) using the date it was discussed with the Appersons. This was one of several unverified claims made by Mr. Haynes. The Haynes-Apperson Automobile Company was organized in 1898. Disagreements resulted in separation late in 1901. The Apperson brothers built their first car in their own name July, 1902. Haynes retained the Haynes-Apperson name until mid-1904 and it wasn't until late 1905 that the company would be reorganized as the Haynes Automobile Company. Apperson applied the name "Jack Rabbit" to many models they produced. The Appersons would build cars until 1926 when they went into receivership.
