This is an antique Royal Doulton plate that is illustrated with a coloured image of five children beside a fence. This is from the 'Pastimes' series that was introduced in 1902 and discontinued by 1932. Although mottoes appear with most scenes in the pattern books, they rarely feature on the wares. The motto that goes with this plate is 'Good Words without deeds are but rushes and seeds'. The five children are dressed in victorian style clothes that were made popular by the famous illustrator Kate Greenaway. The border of the plate is an apple green with stylized ivy and hearts. It measures 8.5" across and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. T are just three places on the reverse w you can see that the stilts that seperated items in the kiln have been removed. On the base is the Royal Doulton backstamp with an impressed date of 1907. T is also the pattern number D2222. Airmail postage to the U.S.A. would be $13.25; to the United Kingdom, Australia or other international destinations would be $14.95. Postage within Canada depends on postal code, please email for a quote. Check out my other items for more Doulton as pieces are happily combined to save on postage!
