This is a photographic glass magic lantern slide, beautifully colored, labeled, "George Paddling French River May, 1908." Before Canada became a country, Voyageurs were paddling the waters of the French River. Brigades of canoes portaged around rapids and waterfalls - transporting furs from Canada's great Northwest to market in Montreal. Because of its historic significance, "the French" was designated a Canadian Heritage River in 1986. It flows 110 kilometres from Lake Nipissing to the Georgian Bay. Lantern slides are one of the best untapped resources of photographs t are. Many of these slides are one-of-a-kind because they were often not mass produced or the ones that were have been destroyed or discarded by now. Slide is 3 1/4" x 4", is in very good condition, and can be viewed by projecting, holding it to the light, or placing it on a light box. For more information on magic lanterns and slides go to .
