This 12 Hole pattern was thought to be an early experimental.Nicely centered with perfs clear on both sides. Premium copy of a hard to find stamp. This is pattern, Des 91 -1, listed in the US Perfins Catalog.High volume commercial mailers of the day used Schermack/Mailometer Machines to apply stamps and seal envelopes at the rate of up to 250 envelopes per minute. Stamps were provided by the Mailometer Company in perforated coils of 3000.The perforations were not used to separate the stamps, but to facilatate their movement through the machine. The stamps were cut by a knife just prior to being moistened and affixed to the envelope. This is a very interesting subset to collect and information can be found in the Scott Specialized Catalog in the Vending And Affixing Machine Perforation section.FREE Shipping in the US .
