Here is a truly beautiful Antique Terrestrial Globe of the Earth made in approximately 1909 by the famous Rand McNally Co ., Chicago . The diameter of the globe is 8 inches . It is a very detailed Political World Globe with subtle highlights of major topographic features of the continents . The globe is mounted by means of a single interior meridian at 23 2/3 degrees, the angle of the real earth's axis. The globe is all original and appears never to have been tampered with or reconditioned in any way. The globe ball is mounted to a cast iron bracket at the South Pole, which itself is mounted to a turned maple dowel which is attached to a lovely, 4-Tiered maple base . The maple base is especially attractive in this piece and really makes the globe. The globe itself is about 1/2 globe , 1/2 base , providing superb balance and aesthetics . The globe's oceans are a pretty sky blue , and the continents are done in subtle, muted shades of tans , greens , and yellows . This globe features a very nice Analema with which to view the direct angles of the sun on any day of the year. The analema is one of the nicest I've seen, providing the reader with a detailed explanation of what it is and how to read it. The globe is extremely detailed as to named cities . There is a nice, very small, brass triangle cap , or nut, fitted to the interior meridian read more
