"NEWTON PHOTOS" ROCK ISLAND TRAIN WRECK MARCH, 21, 1910 Forty-seven Dead in Rock Island Wreck.Awful Horror Follows Derailment of Train Near Gladbrook, Iowa.Forty-seven people were killed and scores injured in a wreck near Green Mountain, Iowa, Monday morning when a double-header passenger train on the Rock Island went into the ditch. Forty-four of the bodies have been identified. Three of the other bodies, all those of women and children, are yet to be identified. ...Both engineers and one of the firemen escaped with their lives, but one of the firemen is missing, while John C. White, who was the lead engine piloting the train to Waterloo, was so severely scalded that he is not expected to live.
