For auction is a silk featuring the college cheer, an early image of a basketball and hoop, with the college colors and college seal. The silk measures approx. 4" by 5.5". These silks were issued as premiums in each pack of Richmond Straight Cut cigarettes around 1912. The idea was to boost cigarette sales. This is one of a series of 50 silks featuring the college cheers, and sometimes mascots, for each of the colleges featured. This series of silks is much harder to find than the murad cigarettes. I beleive that Richmond Straight Cut cigarettes was a more expensive brand of cigarettes and the packs included more cigarettes in them. These silks are great items for for early tobacco collectors and college aluminae. Really nice item to frame!! Designation for this silk is S23 , referred to as college silk, tobacco silk or cigarette silk. Please see my other auctions for more great college material issued by the early tobacco / cigarette companies. This silk is clean!!! 4.00 S & H
