SURGICAL AND OBSTETRICAL OPERATIONSByW. L. WilliamsProfessor of Surgery and Obstetricsin the New York State Veterinary College,Cornell University1912Third Edition, Revised and EnlargedCarpenter & CompanyIthaca, New YorkHardcover, 240 pagesFirst published in 1903, this scarce veterinary practical text book leaves some critical information out of the title- first, that it is a veterinary, not human medical text book, and also, that it applies primarily to equines or horses, but can be adapted to similar quadrupeds, ie; cattle, sheep, etc.The surgical operations involved range from simple tooth extraction to amputation, castration and fetal evisceration, among other more complex operations. Procedures are illustrated with forty full-page plates and other smaller illustrations. A very interesting antique veterinary surgical book.Although modern 21st century reprints of this book are available for (a usually hefty) price, only these early editions are collectible, and really the best to have. This copy happens to be in EXCELLENT condition with minimal wear, only name/address/date in red pen of a previous owner on the first blank endpaper. 5 1/2" x 8" x 1"
