A 1914-15 Star correctly impressed to: 2517 PTE. B. BROWN, MANCH.R. Private Benjamin Brown of the 1/8 th Battalion Manchester Regiment was killed in action at Gallipoli in June 1915. He was 27 years of age and from Farington, Preston. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. There is disagreement between SDIGW, CWGC & his Medal Index Card as to the exact date of his death. SDIGW has the date as 4 th June 1915, CWGC has the date as 21 st June, & his MIC says “KIA 7/6/1915”. What is not in doubt is that he was killed in action. I believe 4 th June 1915 is the most likely as that was the date of the 3 rd Battle of Krithia, & according to SDIGW, the 1/8 th Manchesters suffered 82 casualties on that day. The medal is in excellent condition with a good length of original slightly discoloured ribbon. I will supply a copy of his Medal Index Card & SDIGW details with the medal.
