Samuel Greenberg entered the war on August 23, 1914, and was killed in action 3 days later at the Battle of Le Cateau . . . possibly the first Jewish soldier killed in The Great War. His MONS Star, which is in excellent condition, is impressed as follows: 8716 Pte. S. GREENBERG. R. LANC: R. The Star was sent to his mother, Mrs. Sarah Greenberg, and although he was entitled to the "5th AUG. - 22nd NOV" bar she obviously never applied for it. Samuel was a true "Old Contemptible". This lot will be sent to the wining bidder with a CD containing the following: MIC, his photo, and the censuses for 1891, 1901 and 1911. His photo was taken from the British Jewry Book of Honor, which can be found on page 187. Priority mailing to any U.S. zip will be an additional $5.00. FOREIGN BIDDERS PLEASE READ THIS I would consider selling to prospective buyers in the UK, Canada or Australia but you MUST write me first to confirm mailing costs which will be about $15.00. All payments have to be made through PayPal, and MUST be made in U.S. funds, absolutely no exceptions. Foreign bidders not complying with my request will have their money refunded and their names put on my 'blocked bidders list'. Please do what I ask, and good luck with your bidding. If you have any questions, anything, PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING . Thank you.
