Army Pilot Log Book Hardcover - 60 double-pages (3 pages used) U.S. School of Military Aeronautics Signal Corps, U.S. Army Air Service 2nd Lieutenant James J. Gambs from Cincinnati Ohio Entries from Sept.11, 1918 to December 13, 1918, all in U.S., including Washington D.C., Worchester, Mass. and Purcellville, Virginia. Type of work includes: Dual Instruction, Cross Country and Acrobatic. In the Type of Plane column the entry JN 4D appears. This would refer to the two-seat biplane " Jenny " ; which did not see WWI combat, but was used extensively for training the pilots of the United States Air Service. The back cover is inscribed in ink with an inter-locking “ J J G ” logo. A quick www search reveals that in 1918 Gambs was with America’s First Provisional Wing of the United States Army Air Corps (from Google book result: Aero Club of America; 1918 - Technology & Engineering ): “ AMERICA'S First Provisional Wing, which has its headquarters at Mineola, Long Island, is known as the most active aero unit on this side of the Atlantic, having given numerous demonstrations in cross country, formation and trick flying.
