American Indian Chief Head, with Full Feather Headdress. German Glass Christmas Tree Ornament. 1920s. Really in all his regal glory. Such a fantastic American image. We were in love with Indian culture, and still are. Thus this was a popular topic for ornaments made by Germans for the American market. This is in such good shape, and it is so well detailed. This head is silvered inside. Molding is just fantastic. Even down to his tied pony-tail in the back in middle of his headdress. And the feathers are so detail as well in the front. Soft pale gold ribbon around his neck. Face is that deep orange red, as realistic as it can be with the rugged face of an Indian. Black eyes, and red mouth. Then the headdress. First red highlight gold band. Then red feathers. Then pale green and pearl colored lacquer to finish the last feathers on the top. Neat red and gold coloration in the back as well. It is an amazing detailed mold. 3.75" and in very good condition, as you can see. Unusually excellent, I dare to say. Glass ornament blown in Germany and hand painted there in the period between World War I and World War II—the Golden Age of Glass ornaments.
