Scarce and terrific vintage Krusty Korn Sausage Pan by Wagner Ware, Sidney, Ohio, circa 1920s, cast iron, comprising a two-part mold with heavy-gauge spiral wire handles and four corncob-shaped cavities, resting on the original square base with bail handle, the overall length of the molds (with handle) 13-3/4", the overall dimensions of the base (excluding handle) 10-1/2" x 9-1/2" x 4", each half of the mold impressed "Krusty Korn, Reg. in U.S. Pat. Off., Sausage Pans, Patented 2-22-10, 7-6-20, 9-15-25, Wagner Ware, Sidney, O." A bit of very subtle surface wear to mold, and some light superficial rust to base (only; easily removed), otherwise fine, attractive, untouched condition, with no breaks or losses, needing only a bit of minor TLC to bring it back to near-new condition.A notable rarity among early Wagner cast iron forms. The pan is designed so that an already-cooked sausage link would be placed atop cornbread batter in the mold openings, then heated in an oven or on a cooking surface (without or without base, depending on what kind of apparatus was used)--creating what was essentially the first corn dog.
