In 1922 the Denver Mint was only branch to produce one cent coins that year. As a result of zealous die polishing, the "D" mintmark did not strike onto the obverse of coins from the "Die 2" pairing run, which saw the die for the reverse replaced but not the highly polished obverse die. This resulted in what is now the most popular of several possible versions of the 1922-D Lincoln cent, with no "D" showing on the obverse and strong details present on the reverse. Authenticated by ANACS as a "NO D FS-401 Die 2" specimen, the offered 1922 "No D" cent (VF Details, Scratched) is a major key to the Lincoln cent series. This handsome example is broadly pleasing with rich walnut brown coloring and nice detail definition for the grade, with the noted "Scratched" modifier referring to a fairly unobtrusive condition.
