They usually can be identified by a machine cancel from a unique town or location. Such as Pine Lawn, MO (Charles Mekeel) and Benton Harbor, MICH (A.W. Filstrup). These multiples are more likely to have a guideline or paste up tab to further interest the collector of that time.Commercial usage is usually indicated by hand stamping and many times a ratty appearance.
