Up for auction is this extremely rare souvenir program from the 1924-1925 American Farewell tour by Anna Pavlova. The tour was produced by her manager Sol Hurok, under the corporate name S. Hurok Inc., New York. The program was published by Arthur Klar in New York. The program contains descriptions of the different ballets to be presented by Pavlova during the tour. This brochure uses the inconsistently transliterated Pavlowa rather than the usual Pavlova or German Pawlowa. The 9.5" x 12.5" and is 16 pages long, gold thread bound program is bound in heavy stock wraps. The front cover has stamped in gilt a recessed plaque with raised figures of a male and female dancer and a facsimile signature of Pavlova, also in gilt. The program is profusely illustrated with 4 full page photographs of Pavlova, several smaller photos of her performing, and quarter page photographs of the Russian male dancers in her company: Laurent Novikoff and Alexandre Volinine. As you can see from the scans, the program is in very good condition. The covers are attached, there is little edge wear, and the interior pages are clean, bright, and unmarked. Please note that the program was too large to fit into my scanner. This program is a must have for anyone interested in the career of Anna Pavlova. The program appears to be extremely rare.
