This one is guaranteed old, vintage and genuine. Absolutely hand carved all original probably walnut wood black forest bookrack or sliding pair of bookends. This is also called a bookstand, bookslide or folding and expandable bookshelf, all are accurate descriptions. These are old and predate bookends. They were popular from about 1880 to 1920 at the latest and switzerland and germany produced most of them and often sold them to americans on the Great European Tour back then. This one is a big one, measuring over 14 inches closed at it's shortest length to 23 inches fully extended. It is 6 inches wide. The ends measure six across by over 7 inches tall. All the hinges are original metal, brass. It works perfectly. The ends fold down flat for storage and stand up firm and strong when used. The slide glides easily in and out. The whole thing is beautifully carved, great detail, with the base as nicely carved as the ends. The ends show oak leaves and acorns I think although could be another flower or tree common to the blackforest. No chips, no damage. Gorgeous and so useful nowadays for not only books but dvd's and cd's. Please see my other auctions for more antique and vintage cast metal bookends and doorstops that I will combine on shipping whenever possible.
