Collectors interested in this auction are no doubt aware that this program does not show up on eBay that often - since eBay began only two have been up for auction - one years ago and one earlier this month - and I bought both of them. This is the lesser grade of the two, but still scarce, rare, historic, and desirable for anyone who collects early NFL material. This is as close as you are going to get to a Championship program from 1926. There were no divisions or playoff games in the 1920s - the championship was based on a team's winning percentage, but as the season progressed fans were well aware of the contenders and the critical games that would lead to a championship - and this was that game in 1926. A Bears win would have brought the title to Chicago, and the Yellow Jackets, the NFL franchise in Philadelphia at that time, had to win this game and finish the season without any other losses to be declared Champions. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this game was that Frankford was coached by Guy Chamberlin, an All American from Nebraska, who in his first five seasons as an NFL coach won the championship four times: 1922 and 1923 Canton Bulldogs, 1924 Cleveland Bulldogs, and 1926 Frankford Yellow Jackets. Chamberlin was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1962 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1965. read more
