1927 - 1930 HANDWRITTENDIARY ---------------------- This auction is for an INCREDIBLE 81 YEAR OLD antique diary / journal / manuscript -It was written by FLORENCE ADAMS, who lived at 1117 Harrison Street, DENVER, COLORADO. Florence was born on April 1, 1913. This is one of those diaries that is very desirable to find!It was written by a teenager school girl, who was 14 years old when she started this diary.The entries are amazing, as they are detailed and she freely expresses her emotions!And what an emotional girl she was! In one of her entries, she writes how a doctor had to come to her hometo give her a shot of morphine & opium to calm her down because she couldn't stop crying! THIS IS AN AMAZING DIARY!!! Florence writes about her life, growing up with the typical pressures of school, friends, parents, an older sister, boys - boys - boys!, rumors spread about her, marriage proposals, her disfunctional family, and more.I don't know what it was about her, but the boys just loved her!They all wanted her to be their girl, and she received several marriage proposals during high school.Poor Florence doesn't know who she wants ... one day she's madly in love with someone and is wearing his ring,and a couple of days later she's in love with someone else ... and on and on it goes.She writes of terrible quarrels she has with her mother and sister,and quarrels between her older sister and mother, and between her sister and herself ...One of these escalated to a physical hair-pulling fight!And then t is the abuse .... she sadly writes of being whipped and beat by her father. The handwritten entries are dated 1927, 1928, 1929, and 1930,and on the back pages she wrotes about how she rescued a drowning sparrow, and the story behind the cartoon "Maggie & Jiggs".She wrote an account of the first church wedding she attended and her first school dance,and she made a list of the schools she attended in Denver, and of her Best Boyfriends & Girlfriends,and of all of the gifts she received during the years that the diary spans.Her handwriting is easy to read.The diary measures 3 1/4" x 5", and most of the pages are completely filled from top to bottom with entries! It is in very good condition.T is an inscription inside "Presented to me July 18, 1927 by Mr Lishner, leather salesman and friends". I was looking at Walter today, he looked up and saw me. I'm a darn fool. He sure acted nice today. I like him - I'm crazy! .... Wore Sis's satin pumps to school on the sly. I made a fool of myself in English, I'm so darn dumb. Embarrassed. I have love to have cried. I sure feel blue tonight .... Burton Page wore my ring today - He came in home room today and asked for my class song. He's going to write the music to my words. Walter is mad at me, I think it's because of the ring ..... Mother and I started quarreling. I got hysterical and for nearly two hours kept it up. A doctor came and shot some morphine and opium in my leg. It hurt. I wouldn't let anyone talk or touch me .... Oh God, what a home, Payden called for me tonight. Mother let me get dressed and while I was waiting for him she didn't say a word. When he came, she said I wasn't going. Sis told me to go anyway.
