Here you have a named commemorative medal celebrating the 30th Annual Encampment of The United Spanish American US War Volunteer Veterans as well as the 26th Anniversary of Cuba’s Independence. The reunion was held in Havana, Cuba in 1928. The medal was made in the USA. This special Encampment was held out of the country in Havana, Cuba. The star shaped medal features the seal of Havana on the front. On the reverse is embossed the dual purpose of the reunion. The medal is suspended from the pin mount by a ribbon in our patriotic colors. The ribbon is heavily worn and frayed but still, amazingly, intact. Please check out the photos. The pin mount has a tab where the veteran inked his name in pen. The vet was W. L. Hovey. The pin mount has a needle pin and catch on the reverse. The medal itself is bold and striking. The patina is beautifully preserved. All the information on the reverse is legible. The medal measures 1.375 by 3.75 inches. The dual purpose medal represents a first for me and an intriguing piece to add to one’s collection. As a named item the medal could be researched and there might be provenance. The Spanish American War Vets were known as USWV. The medal cuts across the Spanish American War, the USWV, this particular veteran, Havana and Cuba.
