Payment | Shipping | Policies 1930's ADVERTISING HAWAII INTER-ISLANDS TELEPHONE RATES The item in this listing came from a scrapbook that we have personally had for 20 some years; it was deteriorating when we found it, with a continued down slide in spite of care and gentle handling; we have pulled it out now and then to look through, but could never decide exactly what to do with it. . . . this time we decided we should pass on some of the loose and/or interesting items on for others to enjoy; see our other listings for 30+ pieces this week. All of the clippings and items in the scrapbook were collected by an American exchange teacher who taught in the Hawaiian Territories during 1937 to 1938 (before Hawaii's statehood); these are all original Hawaiian period items including among other things: menus, sports event programs, matchbooks, Don Blanding, ocean liner and military printed materials and other assorted memorabilia from places she ate, visited, participated in events, etc. Priority mail shipping will be available on request; we combine sales so check out the others--thanks for looking!This item is a 1937-38 advertising piece from "Mutual Telephone Company; Oahu, Hawaii", promoting their Inter-Island RADIO telephone and WIRELESS Telegraph service--quite an exciting event for the 1930's!! We are supposing that with a rate of "as little as $10.50 to the Mainland" for the first three minutes for telephone calls, many people opted to use the telegraph service instead--that was a lot of money back then, considering this woman's steamship passage from California to Hawaii, including a cabin and meals, cost only $85.00! The brochure is printed on heavy card stock paper and measures about 4" x 7" closed; is in overall very good to excellent condition, except for the glue remnants and peeled off spot on the back bottom edge of the card from being in the scrapbook.
