Sadly, this is a mutilated example Modern Rococo Pictorial Bookplate designed by Rex Whistler with a bust named Diana and the inscription Duff Cooper. Printed in black, engraved by Robert Osmond (1874-1959) in August 1931 from a sketch by Rex Whistler (19095-1944). Lady Diana Manners (1892-1986) 3rd dau of the 8th Duke of Rutland m.1919 Alfred Duff Cooper, who became Viscount Norwich in 1952.This is the smaller of two sizes. Dimensions of paper: 114x85mm Condition: POOR - either the bookplate was glued into a book with especially strong glue, or whoever removed it from a book made a complete hash of this. The normal start price would have been £28, but it has been set at just £8 because of tears in the paper in the area of the bottom righthand corner of the image. Thus, the ruled border is out of register in several places, and has been scuffed away at others. To avoid further damage, the bookplate has been pasted onto backing paper.
