You are bidding on a 1933 General Electric Model K-40 small wooden mantel radio that I purchased at a flea market. It had a note attached (included) that reads: RADIO HAS THE ORIINAL BOX AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (AND SCHEMATIC). IT APPEARS TO BE ALL ORIGINAL EXECPT FOR THE KNOBS. IT WAS STORED IN THIS BOX FOR 60+ YEARS. IT DOES NOT WORK , HAS A LOUD HUM ONLY. PREVIOUS OWNER CLEANED THE RADIO CABINET AND CHASSIS. I replaced the two original multi-section filter capacitors with modern ones and the radio now plays with minimal hum. This is a 4-tube set, predating the Superheterodyne Circuit so it needs a long (20') antenna wire to pick up stations. The original antenna wire is still present and I streched it the length of my shop and was able to pick up at least 6-8 different radio sations during the day, in my basement in the City of Saint Louis. Sensitivty is suprisingly good for it's age. Best reception is in the evening as would be expected. The original operating instructions include a complete electronic schematic for the radio. I replaced only the filter capacitors, other original wax ones remain that should be changed and would probably improve the sound even more. Pictures are accurate. Chassis and speaker appear untouched except for the 4 new capacitors that I installed. I tested all 4 tubes on my Hickock and they measure read more
