1935 Kyoto, Japan - artist signed in Japanese - Rare "South Pacific" Silk Thread reproduction in original frame with museum donation plate in front (see below in pictures) - BEAUTIFUL AND HISTORIC PIECE Beautiful, 1935 Kyoto Japan (with artist's signature on bottom right in Japanese) Silk Thread painting with original wood and linen frame (with sticker on back from the old "Ashley's Frame Shop" which used to be on the 1300 block of State Street, Santa Barbara. Has metal plate on front center of frame on the linen reading - RARE "SOUTH PACIFIC" REPRODUCTION PAINTED WITH SILK THREAD, WHICH WAS DYED THE DESIRED COLOR BY THE ARTISTAS HE STITCHED EACH THREAD IN KYOTO, JAPAN, 1935. DONOR CAPTAIN S.E. SMITH, USN, RET. - This plate at the bottom was put t probably by one of the local museums / public spaces to which artwork is pretty much all donated by residents and plates like these are put up upon them, but have not done the research to discover which one, I got it at an estate sale in Santa Barbara. The artist's signature in Japanese is on the bottom right of the work, last photo I have Measures 30 1/2" wide and 19 1/2" high. It is a very beautiful work and holds historic value both for Japan and for Santa Barbara! Great!
