1935 Lionel Red Comet Passenger Set 278e with Commodore Vanderbuilt 264e Loco & 261t tender & (2) 603 & 604 passenger cars with boxes . The pass. cars have the black air tanks on underside. Later years simply have red underbellies. Here is the condition: 1. 264e - Firebox/cab has cracks & roof is chipped. Replacements on ebay go for $25. Needs one '264e' number board. Frontal area paint is worn. Runs good, e-unit and light work. Wheels/rollers are fine. Box - missing all end flaps and internal sleeve if it had one. 2. 261T - has some paint loss & rubs. Box - missing flaps on one end. 3. 603/604 cars - have spotty paint loss rubs. I would grade as very good. Boxes - all boxes have end flap issues (detached, torn, missing). Because of age and the general pretty good condition of the cars I can't rule out a repaint at some point in their life. If there was a repaint it wasn't recent because of the playwear.
