Youare bidding on a RARE, Illustrated De Luxe Edition of “Moby Dick or the Whale” by Herman Melville; Illustrated by Rockwell Kent. * 1937 De Luxe Edition. (Neither the “sounding whale with flukes” of the top cover nor the “harpoon” on the spine appeared on the covers of the original 1930 Edition). * Published by: Garden City Publishing Co., Inc, Garden City, N.Y. Condition: * This book is in EXCELLENT CONDITION ! I can find nothing wrong with it! * It is Very CLEAN – from the front cover to the back cover! * The book’s binding is STRONG and doesn’t show much wear at all! * It has 2 pages (in the front of the book) which are embossed with “Library of James Slone Higgins”. Otherwise there are no marks, etc. * It is hard bound in Original Blue Cloth with a Gilt Whale Tail on the front cover. The book’s spine also has a Gilt Title and Design – I believe it is a whaling spear. The spine color is fading. * This book has 822 Pages with NUMEROUS Illustrations. * After the “Contents” pages, there is an “Etymology” and “Extracts” section, and an “Epilogue” at the end. * The last page states: This edition of “Moby Dick” is printed by R.R. Donnelly & Sons at Crawfordsville. It contains reproductions of Rockwell Kent’s drawings that appeared in The Lakeside Press three volume edition. * It measures approximately 8“x 6”. Reason
