ALONE by Richard E. Byrd Published by G.P. Putnam's Sons New York 1938 4th impression. 296 pages. Signed on the flyleaf in ink "R.E. Byrd" as Admiral Richard E. Byrd, the famous Admiral who explored the Arctic and Antarctic polar regions by airplane in the 1920s-30s. (see picture 2) In a special red leather and red cloth binding and was given as a gift by the "Harvard Club of Cincinnati" with a bookplate on the front endpaper. 8 3/8" X 5 3/4". With 12 chapters written like a diary by Admiral Byrd and with a small illustration at the head of each chapter. About his hardships at a station in Antarctica. (see all 12 pictures)The autograph is very clear and unfaded. The text block is fine and very bright and clean. The leather binding shows very light wear on the corners and the top of the spine is very slightly frayed. The recipient of the gift book wrote his name and address in light ink on the rear blank endpaper. (see picture 12)
